Solo Traveling – Why You Should Try It!

 Many people hesitate to travel solo—I know I did at first. I had some experience flying alone and doing things on my own, but I always met up with family at my destination. However, in 2023, I decided to take the plunge and embark on my first true solo trip: a six-day cruise on Mariner of the Seas, departing from Orlando.

Was it a mistake? Or was it the best decision ever?

Turns out, it was the latter—it created an addiction! I quickly discovered that cruising is the ultimate way to travel. It’s essentially an all-inclusive resort on the water, packed with activities, entertainment, and endless opportunities to explore. I’ll dive deeper into why I think cruising is the best way to travel in another post, but for now, let’s talk about what makes solo travel so amazing.

The Freedom of Solo Travel

The biggest perk? Freedom. You make your own choices. You do what you want, when you want. There’s no waiting on others to decide, no compromising on plans, and no need for group chats to coordinate every little detail. The only challenge? Figuring out how to fit everything in!

I’ve even returned to the same ports of call just to do a different excursion.
For example, in August 2024, I solo traveled to Cancun and booked a trip to Chichén Itzá. I had been there years ago with my mom, but there was still so much left to explore. Getting the chance to go back and dive deeper into the history was incredible, and I’d love to return again—maybe next time with friends.

The Perks No One Talks About

Let’s be real—who doesn’t love a king-size bed to themselves? I adore my friends, and traveling with them is always a blast, but there’s something luxurious about sprawling out in a massive bed after a long day of adventure. It’s like treating yourself to royalty-level relaxation!

Why You Should Try Solo Travel

Solo travel pushes you outside of your comfort zone, allows you to fully immerse yourself in the experiences you want, and gives you the chance to explore on your own terms. And while there are some logistics to figure out—especially with solo cruising—the payoff is absolutely worth it.
